Ebb and Flow

In Ebb and Flow I am exploring a nontraditional landscape painting method. I abstract images of the Earth from a satellite's perspective. I show topographical scenes in which land and water are constantly changing and reshaping each other. My paintings contain organic shapes with a very inorganic color palette. The purpose of my bright colors is to first, grab the attention of the viewer, but also to initiate cheerful emotions while at the same time serving as a symbol of the beauty of our Earth and our connection yet disconnect from it.

I do not intend for my viewers to recognize the locations in my work, or even that they are landscapes. Instead, I aim for the compositions to remind people of microscopic images of cells. I want to blur landscape and cells in order to compare their role in our lives. We are aware of both the Earth and cells. Their size could not be more different but they hold a similar significance, or rather lack of, in our minds. We rarely stop to notice the transformation of the Earth caused by erosion, yet the land around us never ceases its alterations. Just as, every living thing on Earth is made up of millions of cells, but we never really think about that. I want to remind people of the magic and mystery of our planet in order to inspire a high spirited reconnect with the natural world.
